Olosind, one of Laiquendi elves from Ossiriand. Dedicated to Nifrodel, who gave him name. In the tongue of Laiquendi Olosind means Dreamer. Laiquendi of Ossiriand come from the 'Silmarillion' by J. R. R. Tolkien.


As you can check in my portfolio, I was trying to fix my Onyx and ended up with this elf portrait for my friend, that was her idea to turn him into an elf. No, no pointy ears - not in my vision of Arda.

That should be Onyx' face, I like it better than blue hues one. Both versions were painted in Painter from the same final WIP stage.


I still have problems with mid tones - I loose them and get over contrasted image or there is not enough of shadows and all looks flat. At least to me. I use LCD screen,a good one but still missing some midtones, so that might be a cause, but I would rather blame my hand, eye or technique. If you've got any tips how to paint to save mid tones and still have dimensional (not flat) image, I'll gladly learn of them. Constructive critique is welcomed.
