Sepia variation on my old Maedhros' portrait. I keep deleting him and submitting again here and there, I guess he should stay here for a while, as a piece of my history


Painted in Painter IX in colour from the start (with dry acrylics, pastels and a few other brushes; airbrushes for the armour). Desaturated and coloured again with colour layers, fixed with equalizer filter in the end. [March 2006].

Retouched a bit in May 2008.


Maedhros is one of my favourite characters from the 'Silmarillion' by J. R. R. Tolkien. Ancient elf, one of the Noldor exiled from Valinor. The title is a paraphrase of Arwen's line from the 'Lord of the Rings' movie and it means 'I am Maedhros, I've come to help you' which sounds a bit suspiciously in the mouth of the kinslayer. Is he talking there to a lost Sindarin kid found near Himring Hill or in his madness to Elwing sitting in a window with Mouth of Sirion view?
